Doom in December: Witch Mountain’s “Psycho Animundi”

This is one mighty slab of psychedelic doom. Incredible vocals and a slow plodding guitar/bass riff just propel the song forward. And then there’s that moment at 2:59 when the music stops dead in its tracks, leaving you hanging until the band kicks in again. Great stuff.

Doom in December: The Lumberjack Feedback’s “A Whisper to the Thunder”

The Lumberjack Feedback – doom so heavy, it requires two drummers. I have to admit to being a bit skeptical about the idea of instrumental doom, but this has a hypnotic quality that draws you into it.

If you like what you see and hear in this video, be sure to go check out the band’s new free EP, Noise in the Church. Free doom metal. There’s a holiday gift for you!

Doom in December: Kuolemanlaakso’s “Aarnivalkea”

Today’s Doom in December is one of the more difficult to spell entries. I had to check it three times, but I think I finally got it right.

I remember when Kuolemanlaakso’s latest album, Tulijoutsen, came out, I thought, “I need to check this out, ’cause it sounds right up my alley.” And then…I forgot? Was too busy listening to something else? Whatever it was, I totally dropped the ball, but thankfully Marlo Reghenas’s list of top albums of 2014 reminded me of its existence. I’m not letting it slip by a second time.

For today’s Doom in December, let’s tune things down with NAGA. Isn’t that opening riff killer?

Doom in December: Et Moriemur’s “Liebeslied”

Sometimes you just can’t beat a nice full-throated death growl. Today’s dose of death doom comes from Et Moriemur, from the Czech Republic.

Doom in December: Windhand’s “Orchard”

Man, I ought to listen to Windhand more often. I’d forgotten how good this song was until I stumbled on this video while looking for stuff to post for Doom in December. Enjoy the heaviness!

Doom in December: Uzala’s “Dark Days”

I have no idea what’s supposed to be going on in this video, but the tune is pretty killer.

Doom in December: Serpentine Path’s “Disfigured Colossus”

Today’s Doom in December is from Serpentine Path. Instead of a real video, you get a an extensive look at the vinyl for their most recent album, Emanations. I’ll admit, it looks pretty sweet. I don’t collect vinyl, but sometimes I wish I did.

Doom in December: My Dying Bride’s “The Blood, The Wine, The Roses”

You can’t do a series on Doom metal without including My Dying Bride, can you? Well, I suppose you could, but it would be wrong.
